Recently I was talking about patterns for the rigid heddle beginner you can read that post here if you missed it. Plaid, which I discussed recently is a type of colour and weave, as you have set colours in set amounts in the warp and then cross with the same colours and amounts in the weft. Take a look at this post if you want to see some examples of plaids I made on my weaving software. When the warp and weft colours cross over each other, they can produce some very interesting effects. You can use colour and weave in all kinds of weave structures, but it works great for plain weave and is perfect for the newer weaver. You are still weaving your familiar plain weave, but it can look very different! My Candy Store Scarf is the perfect example of this.

Burnham-- Colour and weave effect - The form or pattern produced by a weave in combination with the order in which two or more colours are used for warp and weft. Or as Eileen put it: This is a very neat warp - 2 colors, 2 shafts and well over a hundred different patterns! Now how cool is that - and all done with smoke and mirrors - no, no, no - just that magic of the relationship between the threading and the treadling which makes weaving so marvelously interesting! Many weaving patterns are the result of the way weave structure interacts with value or color changes in the warp and weft threads. This structure can be woven on only 2 shafts such as a rigid heddle loom.

The effects produced by applying simple weaves to simple orders of colour- ings comprise continuous line effects, hound's tooth patterns, bird's-eye and spot.

Advances in Modern Woven Fabrics Technology. In woven designs from colored threads, a coloredpattern is a consequence of two possible arrangements where warp is over the weft or vice versa. Thus the primary elements of woven fabric design are combination of weaves and blending of colors using such weaves. Weave is the scheme or plan of interlacing the warp and weft yarns that produce the integrated fabric.
