Failure to do so can lead to an output that cannot be discharged into the sea, blockage of pipelines, and even failure of some parts. There are several factors that results in smooth working of a sewage treatment plant on a ship and this article enumerates all the maintenance and checks for that smooth running.
Water Sci Technol 1 August ; 30 4 : 7— Operation and maintenance costs have been compiled for 20 wastewater treatment plants in the range of 7 to population equivalents. Great effort has been made to exclude the effects of local conditions on the costs.
Data on energy and chemical consumption and manpower are given as well as the total operating costs and the distribution of manpower, energy, chemical and other costs. The results show that costs for manpower and electricity as well as total costs on a per capita basis decrease with increasing plant size.
The variation between individual plants is, however, large even when differences in local conditions are accounted for. This paper is Open Access via a Subscribe to Open model. The treatment of wastewater is a complex process with various process steps. Many situations can occurs which can lead to disruption of the process. A well-working troubleshooting will lead to early warning with problems or even emergency situations, so that measures can be taken at an early stage. The course focus on the responsibilities, roles and tasks of the process controller in normal conditions and in emergency situations. The organisation and procedures are put central and the behaviour of the process controller is discussed. The course includes the data collection and recording for a good quality.

Microorganisms such as bacteria are responsible for decomposing organic waste. When organic matter such as dead plants, leaves, grass clippings, cellulose components, manure, sewage, organic waste like dyes, fats and oils, or even food waste is present in a water supply, the bacteria will begin the process of breaking down this waste. When this happens, bacteria in aerobic process, robbing other aquatic organisms of the oxygen they need to live, consume much of the available dissolved oxygen. If there is a large quantity of organic waste in the water supply, there will also be a lot of bacteria present working to decompose this waste. In this case, the demand for oxygen will be high due to all the bacteria so the BOD level will be high. As the waste is consumed or dispersed through the water, BOD levels will begin to decline. Nitrogen and phosphates in a body of water can also contribute to high BOD levels.
